Operation Skillbridge is an industry-driven, community-led initiative designed to reboot the lives and careers of transitioning service members and veterans. Its primary goal is to close the skills gap, promote economic opportunities, stimulate civic engagement, and provide coordinated access to ongoing community reintegration services for veterans and their families.

Operation Skillbridge helps veterans transition to civilian life by addressing key reintegration issues and challenges faced by both veterans and employers. It aims to create a predictable talent pipeline from military service to employment in priority job sectors through a joint public-private partnership. This is achieved by providing coordinated training through multiple agencies.

The program focuses on bridging the skills gap between military and civilian life, recognizing that many transitioning service members desire a complete career change from their military occupations. It offers sector-specific training programs that provide occupational skills based on industry-endorsed standards. These programs enable veterans to obtain sector certificates, enhancing their employability in target industries.

Additionally, Operation Skillbridge facilitates upskilling and reskilling through veterans’ workforce development. It offers opportunities for transitioning service members to intern for 180 days at no cost to employers. This allows veterans to gain valuable civilian work experience and further develop their skills before fully transitioning into the civilian workforce.

By providing access to training, internships, and resources, Operation Skillbridge aims to support veterans in their transition to civilian life. It recognizes the unique challenges veterans face, such as translating military skills to civilian jobs, lack of job application skills, and the need for post-military career planning. Through its comprehensive approach, Operation Skillbridge strives to ensure that veterans receive the support they need to successfully reintegrate into civilian society and find meaningful employment opportunities.
