– Presentation to occur at graduation ceremony of service members in transition to civilian life –

SAN DIEGO – August 21 2012 – Fleet Week San Diego will present a $19,000 check to the National Veterans Transition Services (NVTSI) for its REBOOT program during a graduation ceremony for REBOOT Class # 35 in Mission Valley Friday 24 August beginning at 11:30 AM Friday.

The donation is part of its continuing missing to honor, celebrate and support the men and women of the military.

“We’re able to make this contribution thanks to the generous support of individuals and corporations in San Diego, as we receive no federal funds for our efforts,” said Harold Elkan, Board Chairman of Fleet Week San Diego 2012. “NVTSI is a vital part of ensuring that service members in transition to civilian life can do so in the smoothest possible way while becoming valuable contributors to our community. We’re very happy to offer our support.”

NVTSI is a San Diego-based 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to assisting veterans in adjusting to civilian life and securing meaningful employment. Its mission is to assist veterans in making a successful transition with all veterans achieving, within their potential, their goals in the transition domains of employment and career, education, living situation, personal effectiveness/wellbeing and community-life functioning. To date, more than 500 Service men/women, veterans and spouses have completed NVTSI’s REBOOT program, with more than 85 percent achieving the goals set in the workshop and an even higher percent feeling ready to tackle the civilian job market.

“Our proven evidence-based social solutions provides veterans with the technical knowledge to fill in the psychological transitional gaps needed to enable them to successfully integrate into civilian life and seek and maintain meaningful employment,” said Maurice Wilson, President and Executive Director of NVTSI. “Making this happen requires the assistance of a host of other organizations, and we’re honored to have Fleet Week San Diego among them.”

Fleet Week San Diego 2012 events will take place from September 8 through October 14. The non-profit foundation was created by community and business leaders who understood the great depth of public support for our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen.

In addition to honoring the military services through the annual Fleet Week San Diego events, the foundation’s goals are to foster awareness of the contributions made by military personnel and their families; to enhance relationships between the civilian, business and military communities; to provide events that military personnel and their families can attend at little or no cost; and to promote other organizations that provide services to military personnel and their families. Fleet Week San Diego is funded solely through the generosity of individuals and corporate contributions. More information is available at http://www.fleetweeksandiego.org/donate.html.

A schedule of the events that fall under Fleet Week San Diego is also posted at www.fleetweeksandiego.org/events.html.

Note – Media are invited to attend the ceremony that will take place at NVTSI’s offices located at 4141 Camino Del Rio South San Diego, CA 92108. For more information, please contact David Oates, Fleet Week San Diego Public Affairs Representative, at 858-750-5560 or david@stalwartcom.com.
