San Diego, CA, July 06, 2010 –(PR.com)– Beginning on June 21 and running through September, service members and veterans will participate in a unique military transition workshop called “REBOOT,” a newly designed transition/reintegration workshop developed to assist them in making the social and career transition from years of service by REBOOTing their culture and skills. The workshop features three weeks of cognitive behavioral education designed to enhance and build upon the participants’ training, experience, and skills to prepare for life after the military.

Current data suggest that many recently separated service members have a difficult time in adjusting to the culture of civilian life. Recently separated service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who have been exposed to extreme battlefield operations and back-to-back tours of duty may be especially susceptible. Statistics show high unemployment, homelessness, suicide, drug and/or alcohol abuse and other reintegration problems experienced by returning service members, and those numbers are rising.

“REBOOT has been carefully designed to address reintegration issues at their root causes by focusing on the [services member’s] positive attributes and teaching attendees how to understand and control thoughts. The three week workshop works through numerous scenarios and guides the attendees through various situations providing them with peer-to-peer advice and sound cognitive education. The workshop validates their experience and teaches them how to manage thoughts and develop social cohesion for their return home.” – Ronne Froman RADM (Ret)

The workshops will take place aboard Liberty Station and will run from June through September. The public is invited to attend graduations.

REBOOT is funded by San Diego County Supervisors Greg Cox and Bill Horn via the Neighborhood Reinvestment Fund and the Parker Foundation. REBOOT is supported by: Navy Region Southwest, Naval Medical Center San Diego, San Diego State University Veterans Center, The Pacific Institute, Operation Legacy, Veterans Village San Diego, and the National Veterans Transition Service Inc.
